Bluefish is a powerful editor targeted towards programmers and webdevelopers, with many options to write websites, scripts and programming code. Bluefish supports many programming and markup languages. See features for an extensive overview, take a look at the screenshots, or download it right away. Bluefish is an open source development project, released under the GNU GPL licence. Bluefish 2.2.8 is a bugfix release with some small improvements and more polishing on existing features. It fixes a few serious but rarely occurring bugs. Options defined in the language definition files are now translated. Various default settings have been improved, most notably the command to launch Firefox for preview. The looks on newer gtk versions have been restored. CSS can now be compressed and decompressed. The installers for Windows and OSX have improvements, and there have been some OSX and Windows specific fixes. Character encoding detection has been improved. Auto-completion for HTML attributes has been improved. The SASS style language has been added.

Notepad++ is a free (as in "free speech" and also as in "free beer") source code editor and Notepad replacement that supports several languages. Running in the MS Windows environment, its use is governed by GPL License. Based on the powerful editing component Scintilla, Notepad++ is written in C++ and uses pure Win32 API and STL which ensures a higher execution speed and smaller program size. By optimizing as many routines as possible without losing user friendliness, Notepad++ is trying to reduce the world carbon dioxide emissions. When using less CPU power, the PC can throttle down and reduce power consumption, resulting in a greener environment.
